Why I chose Pilates

Today I am going to talk about why I chose Pilates and why I started a Pilates Studio.

When I was 18, my mum told me I should start up a pilates business... At that stage I didn't know what Pilates even was but it got me thinking. A few years later I jumped in the deep end and joined a pilates corse online still not knowing exactly what it was about but by that stage I was getting bored at the gym and Yoga just wasn't my thing. So I wanted something different yet challenging.

You know when you see something and you think it looks easy until you try it for yourself? Yea well that's what Pilates should feel like when you are performing the exercises correctly. Pilates is only easy if you are doing it wrong and if you are doing it correctly and its not challenging enough there is always a way to make it harder.

Pilates is similar to Yoga but it doesn't focus on the spiritual connection like Yoga does. I spent a good 2 years being extremely injury prone. My body was breaking down. I use to play hockey, gym and do regular kick boxing training. Over time I cut back and tried to put my body first but I found it hard to go from overtraining to basic training again.

I am not a patient person so knowing I can't do something doesn't sit well with me. Anyways Pilates was a challenge, I liked that it was a middle ground between yoga and the gym. I don't mean that in an easy way either. By incorporating Pilates in to my workouts I have been able to keep up my fitness in a completely different way. There are so many different exercises and variations that I enjoy trying out that just brings the workout to a whole new level. I am not as strong as I was when I was attending the gym every day but my body feels so much better for focusing on Pilates instead.

I love when I get to push my classes harder especially when I am doing the class as well. We all suffer together haha

Starting Active Core was one of the best decisions I have made. I found the gym to be lonely and very isolating. Yoga was the same. The studios I went to didn't really welcome you in. So I wanted to create something different. Since building Active Core I have been able to meet so many lovely people and we have truely created such an amazing little community. I love how social we all are and how many friendships have blossomed from the classes. It is so great to watch everyone progress over time and really evolve in their health and fitness journeys especially the ones that don't actually enjoy working out. They come for the chats and get the fitness benefits at the same time! It's a win win for everyone!

That is why I chose Pilates. It is more than just a form of exercise to me. It is a community that continues to evolve and grow. We all get to continue to improve our health without the injuries that normally go with other forms of exercise. That is what is important to me.

If you feel like you are in a rut with your health and fitness journey send me a message and I will be happy to help you.
