Did you know having a high protein intake can offer you several health benefits? Here are a few:
Increases metabolic rate (Hello weight loss)
Decreases the "hunger hormone"
Helps make you feel full and satisfied
Improves muscle recovery
Enhances muscle growth
Has overall health benefits
Here are 5 ways you can easily increase your protein intake.
1. Eat your protein first
When you sit down to eat your meal you should always start with the protein course first. Protein helps you feel full and satisfied and high protein intake also decreases the "hunger hormone".
2. Protein powder
This is a simple and easy option to dramatically increase your protein intake. However, protein powders are not a meal replacement! You still need to eat a meal. Powders should only be used as a snack or an addition to your food. It‘s hard to find a decent protein powder. I personally use a Vanilla Whey protein. If you are in need of a quick breakfast, try a protein smoothie. It can contain whatever fruit you like, add a scoop of protein powder, top it up with water and half a banana and bam you have a quick and easy healthy breakfast.
3. Switch your cereal for eggs
There are a few things you can do here. Since its winter, it is the perfect time to make yourself an omelette for breakfast and it doesn't even take long to cook. An omelette for breakfast is a nutritious meal that will also keep you fuller for longer.
4. Choose leaner meats
When buying meat have a look at the fat on it. For example, buy slightly bigger cuts of meat that have less fat. Remember, fats are an important part of anyone‘s diet so this is not me telling you to completely cut fat out. However, for the purpose of this blog post we are talking about increasing your protein intake and to achieve this, leaner cuts are better. They will automatically increase the amount of protein.
5. Get those Almonds
Almonds are so great for a quick snack while also increasing your protein intake. You can chop them up and add them to your salads, sprinkle them on your yoghurt or have them by themselves. Bonus, they are also a great snack to have in your handbag or on your desk to nibble on while you work.
Nobody is perfect and you do not have to be. It is all about creating a healthy balance that suits you and your lifestyle.
